about

Chord Organ was one of 'Four Ambient Pieces' that made up Quiet001 back when I ran a CDr label in the 2000s. I've been revisiting it on an old hard drive and whilst I don't think the other tracks from the album merit an upload (not least because one has an uncleared sample - I think I was all 'plunderphonics' fair use back then) this one is still a favourite.

Some time in the early 2000s me and Al picked up a 'Rosedale Chord Organ', a small motor driven harmonium, from the local Oxfam shop for a tenner. I recorded this back in the day by holding a chord and switching the motor on and off (you can hear the clicks of the switch in the recoding, a detail that I'm sure would drive some to distraction). At some point I expanded the track by making copies and repeating them out of time.

For this release, revisiting the old material, I've made a half speed version (in true Eno style) as well as a time stretched experiment.

I often seek to compose in a way where the outcome is not necessarily foreseen (one definition of experimental music) ... more
